Your Cabinets
Can Look
Brand New.
Without the cost or mess of tearing out the whole room. Massachusetts & Southern NH.
Cabinet painting is not regular painting. Cabinets get touched hundreds of times a day — grease, steam, cleaners, wear. The prep and finish system have to match that.
Cabinets that hold up are built on prep, not paint.
"Cabinet painting is not regular painting. If the prep is weak, the finish tells you quickly — usually in the first year."
— Paint Pros MA · Licensed MA HIC #207581At Paint Pros MA, we provide cabinet painting and refinishing across Massachusetts and Southern New Hampshire. Kitchen cabinets, bathroom vanities, laundry room cabinets, mudroom cabinetry, built-ins — if it's a paintable surface worth saving, we can take a look at it.
Most cabinet jobs that fail in the first year or two fail for predictable reasons: not enough cleaning, weak sanding, wrong primer, rushing cure time. The finish might look fine on day one — it just doesn't stay that way. Our process is built around avoiding all of that from the start.
We also handle full interior painting and plaster and drywall repair if the project calls for it. Many cabinet jobs happen alongside a broader kitchen or bathroom refresh — we can scope both together.
When Refinishing Makes Sense — and When It Doesn't.
We'd rather give you a straight answer up front than take a job that was never going to solve the real problem.
- Structurally solid cabinets that look outdated or worn
- Stained wood you want converted to a painted finish
- Old painted finishes that are yellowed, chipped, or poorly done
- Kitchens and bathrooms that still function well
- Historic New England homes where original cabinets are worth preserving
- Presale updates where full replacement isn't worth the return
- Cabinet boxes are badly warped, water-damaged, or delaminating
- Doors and drawers have structural failures beyond cosmetic wear
- Low-quality material already breaking down at joints and seams
- The layout no longer works for how the space is actually used
- Sustained moisture intrusion has caused swelling throughout
- A completely different storage configuration is needed
More Than Just Kitchen Cabinets.
We handle cabinet painting and refinishing throughout the home — anywhere there's a paintable cabinet or built-in surface worth saving.
If you're not sure whether your project is a good candidate, a phone call or site visit will answer that quickly. We'd rather tell you upfront than have you spend money in the wrong direction.
Every Step Exists for a Reason.
Cabinet refinishing doesn't give you much room for shortcuts. If the process is weak, the finish shows it — usually in the first year of daily use.
We look at the cabinets before we talk about color. Material, existing finish, wear pattern, damage, and condition all factor in. Some cabinets are great candidates. Some are not — and we say that up front.
Cabinets in kitchens accumulate years of grease, oils, residue, and cleaning product film. That entire layer has to come off before the prep work can even begin. This is where a lot of budget jobs cut their first corner.
Every door and drawer is organized carefully from the start. How they're handled through the project directly affects both finish quality and the reinstall. Doors that aren't tracked correctly rarely go back on right.
Sanding, dulling old coatings, smoothing rough areas, correcting small defects. Paint doesn't fix surface problems — it amplifies them. This is where most of the real work happens.
Cabinets need the right primer for the specific material and finish system. Using the wrong one — or skipping it entirely — is one of the most common reasons a cabinet finish starts peeling within a year.
We use a finish system built for high-use surfaces — not standard wall paint. The goal is a smooth, durable result that holds up to daily contact, humidity, and cleaning without failing early.
A finish that looks dry is not the same as a finish that's cured. Reinstalling too early means surfaces damage themselves in the first weeks of use. Once fully cured, everything is reinstalled carefully and detailed so the room looks finished — not just painted.
Most Failed Cabinet Finishes Come From the Same Mistakes.
When a cabinet job fails early, it's almost never bad luck. It's the predictable result of something in the process being rushed or skipped. These are the most common culprits.
Insufficient Cleaning
Grease and residue left on the surface means the primer never bonds correctly. Everything after is sitting on a weak base.
Weak Sanding or Poor Prep
Without proper surface prep the finish has nothing to grip. Peeling starts at edges and high-touch areas first.
Wrong Primer
Not every primer is right for every surface or finish system. A mismatched primer is one of the top causes of early adhesion failure.
Rushing Dry & Cure Time
Reinstalling too early means doors damage themselves before the finish has hardened. That wear doesn't repair itself.
Painting Over Defects
Paint highlights imperfections rather than hiding them. Surface problems belong in the prep stage, not under the topcoat.
Consumer-Grade Topcoat
Standard wall paint isn't built for cabinet contact, humidity, and cleaning cycles. A cabinet-grade system is not optional.
